What Questions Should You Ask Your Energy Broker?
Here at Apertus Group, we pride ourselves on our openness, it’s in our name. We want to help our customers navigate the energy market, find the right deal, and hopefully help them save money too.
However, not all energy brokers share our values, and the industry has been known to have some malign elements within it. While the industry is improving and transparency practices are becoming increasingly standard, here are some questions to ask a commercial energy broker to ensure they’re trustworthy and have your best interests at heart.
Make sure you’re working with a reputable broker and one that will get you the right deal for business electricity.
How do you charge for your service?
It’s important to understand how an energy broker is getting their cut of the deal. The common payment methods are a flat fee or per-unit commissions. The type of payment and amount should be disclosed clearly within the contract.
What is their tendering process?
Brokers should be transparent about their tendering process, including their network of suppliers and what they are able to offer you. They should have in-depth knowledge of the energy market and use that knowledge to find a provider that suits your business’s needs.
What analytics tools are available to me?
Brokers should be trying to help you understand more about your energy consumption, and therefore should be freely sharing the data they have acquired with you. They may be able to offer even further information via analytics tools, provided by some energy providers. Ask your broker about these and see if they can get them included in any deal.
What additional services can you secure?
A business energy broker may be able to secure some additional services. This includes those which may help businesses find energy efficiencies, provide bill audits or ongoing support to resolve any issues. Ask your broker about what services they can secure.
